Austin Summer

Barton Springs, a reliable escape from Texas. To me, it always had the feeling of an oasis, a place separate from the rush of the city and the heat. I spent many afternoons there spread out on the grass with a paperback. I try to return and spend some time there every time I visit Austin.

The Greenbelt: Part of what makes the waterfalls and cold pools of the greenbelt magical is how they disappear in oppressive heat of Texas summer. When we need their respite most, they vanish. Walking along the trail to Sculpture Falls (one of the few spots with swimmable levels of water) we noticed the heavy, unmistakable scent of rotted fish. The fish had all clustered in the last pool of water along the drying river bed, and soon that too was gone. So there they died.

Red Bud Isle dog park at twilight. Might be my pup's favorite place ever. Her whole body shook whenever she saw that we were on the road to Red Bud.
